The typical lifespan of an air conditioning unit is 8–12 years. However, this can vary depending on how often the unit is used and the type of unit it is.

Dirt, buildup or a refrigerant leak are likely culprits when it comes to a coil freeze. Crank your thermostat to the highest level and turn on the Fan Only setting for a few hours to thaw the coil.

There are a few issues that could be causing an air conditioner leak. Most often this is due to a clog in the drain line which is responsible for draining condensation from the A/C unit. Dirt and debris build up, causing backup in the drain line and leaking water.  

Another potential issue is refrigerant leak. This happens when the coil in your unit ices up and melts, causing water to drip down the air conditioner.
