Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Rümi’s Home Inspection & Consult services?

Plus icon - black

We offer 4 home inspection services for people at all points of the homeowner journey. Here’s how they differ, and who they’re for:

  • Ask a Home Inspector

For homeowners seeking quick, informal advice. A one-time 15-minute call with a home inspector. This is your chance to ask general questions about your home via video or phone. Think of our inspector as a helpful resource with a wealth of home knowledge to share.

  • Ask a Home Inspector Subscription

For homeowners seeking ongoing, informal advice. The same service as Ask a Home Inspector, but you get a 15-minute call every month for a year.

  • Certified Home Inspection

For home buyers. If you own your home, this is the type of inspection you likely had when purchasing your home. You get a full report of the home’s components, obvious issues and wear-and-tear. The purpose is to give you a snapshot of the home and property to help inform your buying decision.

  • Home Maintenance Inspection

For homeowners seeking comprehensive maintenance advice. A Certified Home Inspector will visit your home and answer any maintenance questions you have. Learn about your home and which maintenance tasks to tackle first.

Wondering what questions to ask a home inspector? We handle anything under or on your roof. If we don't have the answer, we know how to find it for you. We handle all types of questions — from HVAC and hot water tanks to electrical panels.

Where did that mysterious water stain on your ceiling come from? What should you tackle next on your homeowner to-do list? What upgrades can help with energy efficiency? A home inspector can answer these questions and more.

Need first home buyer advice? We can help you get acquainted with your home! Locate the lint traps and filters on your washing machine and dryer, explore your furnace system and more!

How does the Ask a Home Inspector consult work?

Plus icon - black

The choice is yours: video chat or phone.

For video, we'll send you a link to join the call at your appointment time. For phone calls, our certified home inspector will give you a call to start your appointment.

Let the inspector know which areas of your home you'd like to know more about, and you'll discuss options. If you found issues in your home, your inspector will help you understand next steps. You may learn how to fix the issue on your own, or the type of contractor you'll need to hire if it's a bigger fix.

What should I prep for my 15 minutes with the home inspector?

Plus icon - black

There are a few things you can do to prep for your call that will help make the appointment run smoothly.

For phone consults:

  • Keep a pen and paper handy to take notes.

For video consults:

  • Make sure the lighting's good and bright, so the home inspector can see.
  • Be ready to take your inspector on a video tour. This gives us a view of that problem you just can’t describe.

For everyone:

  • Write out your questions so you don’t forget anything during our call.
  • Be ready for the call a minute or two before the call starts so that you get the most out of your 15 minutes with the home inspector.
  • If you only have a couple of questions, we can use the remaining time to take you through some home maintenance tips.
